Russia Warns Poland: This Step Will Not Go Unnoticed - Zakharova
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has stated that Moscow expects Poland to reassess the validity of the accusations presented by Ukraine regarding the arrest of Russian scientist Alexander Butyagin. According to her, the Ukrainian side attributes accusations of cultural heritage destruction to Butyagin.
The diplomat emphasized that such "politicized actions" lack perspective and will not go without consequences, and Poland must understand this.
She also added that employees of the Russian embassy in Poland have met with Butyagin and are in contact with his lawyer who is disputing the temporary detention order issued by the court.
It is worth noting that the Polish RMF FM reported that Polish intelligence services, at Ukraine's request, have arrested Russian archaeologist Alexander Butyagin, who is an employee of the Hermitage Museum and was allegedly conducting excavations in Crimea. A Warsaw court has imposed a preliminary detention of 40 days on the archaeologist, with an official extradition request expected from Kyiv. The crime committed by Butyagin carries a prison sentence of one to ten years.
Earlier, the Kremlin stated that the detention of the Russian scientist in Poland is an arbitrary act.
