Bulgarian Government Resigns Amid Protests

Since the end of November, protests have been taking place across Bulgaria against tax policies and increases in social security payments. Thousands of citizens have taken to the streets of Sofia, demanding government change and a stronger fight against corruption. The day before, protesters in the capital raised slogans such as "Resignation" and "Out with the Mafia" in front of the parliament building. Ultimately, the Bulgarian government has resigned.

Based on drone footage, media estimates suggest that the number of protesters exceeded 100,000, while some sources estimate that up to 150,000 people gathered in the capital. Students from Sofia universities joined the protests, which, according to organizers, surpassed last week's demonstrations where more than 50,000 people participated.

Other protests have occurred in more than 25 major cities in Bulgaria, including Plovdiv, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, and Razgrad. In Plovdiv, several thousand people gathered at Saedinenie Square, waving large Bulgarian flags and holding anti-government banners. A protest also took place in Burgas, where about 10,000 people assembled in front of the city hall to present their demands using outlines and videos projected on screens.
