Zelensky's New Peace Proposal: No Territorial Compromises

Ukraine is preparing to present a revised peace plan to the White House aimed at avoiding territorial concessions to Russia. Kyiv will propose alternative solutions, as President Volodymyr Zelensky has once again ruled out the surrender of territories, stating that Russia has "no legal or moral right to do so."

The recent negotiations between the U.S. and Ukraine have not yielded an acceptable agreement for Kyiv. Zelensky's chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, has indicated that he will inform about the ongoing direct negotiations between the U.S. and Russian presidents.

The Ukrainian president emphasized that there will be no agreement on the surrender of territories and that any change in borders must be confirmed through a referendum. The control over the eastern Donbas region and the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant remains a sensitive issue.

Discussions continue regarding international support and security guarantees, but details are still unclear, and several European countries are skeptical about the deployment of international forces in Ukraine. Zelensky has met with European and NATO leaders to strengthen support and resist pressure from the U.S., while Moscow claims that the negotiations are constructive, despite the lack of signs of progress towards fulfilling Kremlin demands.

Trump has stated that Zelensky is the main obstacle to peace and asserts that an agreement could be reached quickly during the 2024 presidential campaign.
