What Did Agazaryan and the Bishops Discuss in the NSS Detention Center?
Recently, MP Hakob Aslanyan announced that he and Hovik Agazaryan plan to take action to ensure that Nikol Pashinyan does not become prime minister. MP Hovik Agazaryan agrees with Aslanyan's assessment, but noted that it will soon be clear whether these actions will yield results or not. This was reported by the newspaper Iravunk.
“This does not mean that we are all-powerful. It means that we will do our utmost, based on our modest capabilities, to prevent Nikol Pashinyan from being re-elected in 2026, as we believe this could pose serious challenges to our statehood. Soon, an election year will begin, and we will present our views and plans. The public must decide whether we are right or not. Mr. Aslanyan and I do not have significant financial or media capabilities. The outcome will depend on how much our views reach the citizens,” said MP Hovik Agazaryan.
When asked whether the reports in the press about his visit to the NSS detention center, where Mikhael and Bagrat Bishops are located, were true, Agazaryan responded, “Yes, I had a very warm conversation with Bishop Bagrat.” Remembering that he had previously criticized Bagrat Bishop severely, Agazaryan stated, “I still criticize him; I went there to present my views, and they expressed their opinions. It was a very warm meeting, and it was pleasant for me to interact with such people. I reiterated my positions regarding the movement, the issue of being a citizen of Canada, the topic of the Constitution, which I believe the prime minister is violating... and I have great respect for him. I also mentioned that what is happening around Mikhael and Bagrat Bishops is nonsense.”
In response to a question about considering Mikhael and Bagrat Bishops as political prisoners, Agazaryan replied, “I can consider it, there is no problem, but they are clergymen, higher than a political prisoner. If another definition for them is found, it would be more interesting, because Mikhael and Bagrat Bishops are not politicians; they are imprisoned for a nobler cause.”
