Lawyer Reveals New Details About Vardan Ghukasian's Case
The lawyer of Gyumri's mayor Vardan Ghukasian, Zarouhie Postanjian, has issued a statement revealing new details regarding the criminal proceedings instigated against him on political grounds on October 20, 2025.
In the statement, she noted: "Dear compatriots, I would like to inform you that the case initiated against Gyumri's mayor Vardan Ghukasian has been submitted to the Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia. It is important to remember that the Armenian courts have thus far imposed restrictions on Mr. Ghukasian that violate the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
• He has been subjected to illegal wiretapping and covert video surveillance (including monitoring of digital and phone communications, internal observation, and operational-search complex measures using technical means) not only targeting Mr. Ghukasian but also his family members.
• He has been illegally and humiliatingly detained and subsequently held in custody for two months unlawfully.
• Mr. Ghukasian has been kept in inhumane and unsanitary conditions, deprived of necessary medical assistance, and obstructed from exercising his rights to conscience, religion, and beliefs.
Such violations were made possible based on judicial acts issued by judges Zhora Chichoyan and Vardges Sargsyan. Now the case is in the hands of Levon Petrosyan, who became a judge just two months ago at the age of 30. Judge Levon Petrosyan has taken on the task of investigating the ordered fabricated proceedings against Mr. Vardan Ghukasian and has scheduled the initial hearing for December 17, 2025, at 14:00 at the Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia (located at 3/9, Tbilisi Highway, Yerevan).
Every person faces certain trials in their life. Throughout each phase of history, there have been those who could not overcome these trials, while others have successfully navigated through them. I believe that the purpose of all these trials is to showcase and preserve love for God, Justice, and Humanity.
I am convinced that Zhora Chichoyan and Vardges Sargsyan do not love God, Justice, or Humanity. They likely based their judicial decisions on the belief that there is no God, and if there is no God, then everything is permissible, and Justice and Humanity hold no value for them.
December 17, 2025, is a day of trial for Levon Petrosyan. He must make a decision that will clarify the existence of God for him and his faith in Justice and Humanity."
