‘If We Allow Russia to Arise Victorious from the War, We Will All Lose’: Czech President
The victory of Russia in the war against Ukraine would constitute a defeat for the entire West. Czech President Petr Pavel stated this in an interview with The Sunday Times, as reported by РБК-Украина.
He compared the current behavior of the West to the policy of appeasement prior to World War II. According to him, recent announcements regarding secret negotiations between the US and Russia, particularly about the surrender of Ukrainian territories, disturbingly recall the Munich Agreement of 1938.
“If we allow Russia to emerge victorious from this conflict, we will all lose,” emphasized the Czech president.
Pavel is confident that the West is not betraying Ukraine as it once did with Czechoslovakia, but is demonstrating a lack of willingness to protect the principles it ostensibly stands for. At the same time, Pavel admitted that after the war, Europe will need a new security agreement with Moscow, similar to the 1975 Helsinki Accords. However, this should come only after Russia recognizes the territorial sovereignty of all states and agrees to limit its aggressive activities.
“We simply cannot allow Ukraine to lose,” he stressed.
It is noteworthy that on Monday, December 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will travel to London to meet with European leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, to discuss key issues concerning Ukraine's international coordination and support.
French President Emmanuel Macron has highlighted that the unity of Europe and the US is crucial for establishing peace between Ukraine and Russia, pointing out that there is no mistrust among allies and that joint efforts must continue.
