Boxing World Championship: Hovanes Bachkov's Triumphant Return
The bronze medalist of the Tokyo Olympic Games, four-time bronze medalist at the World Championships, and four-time European champion Hovanes Bachkov celebrated his return to the Armenian national team with an impressive victory after a two-year hiatus from competitions.
At the World Boxing Championships currently taking place in Dubai, Bachkov competed in the 67 kg weight category against Kenya's Kavondo Wisman Muathe and won by technical knockout in the second round. In the first round, Armenia's leading boxer adopted a defensive style, allowing his opponent to launch attacks that ultimately missed their mark. Bachkov's counter-attacks proved to be more precise.
The judges unanimously awarded the first round to Bachkov. In the second round, Bachkov took control of the fight, applying pressure with a series of aggressive strikes against his opponent. Just one minute into the second round, the boxer from Gyumri knocked his opponent down, prompting the referee to begin a count before allowing the fight to continue. Shortly thereafter, Bachkov knocked his opponent down for the second time, causing his opponent to stagger. The referee counted again and stopped the fight, awarding the victory to Hovanes Bachkov.
The last time Hovanes Bachkov participated in a tournament with the Armenian national team was in May 2023 at the World Championship held in Tashkent, where he won his fourth bronze medal.
