Foreigners Who Violate Traffic Rules in Armenia with Registered Vehicles Will Pay Fines at the Border

The National Assembly discussed in its meeting on December 4 a draft law aimed at amending the law on the peculiarities of administrative proceedings regarding violations of traffic rules discovered by recording or photographing devices. The bill was presented by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan. This information is reported by the NA website.

According to the Deputy Minister, Article 7.1 of the law provides for the peculiarities of proceedings in cases of violations committed by vehicles not registered in Armenia.

He stated that if a foreigner commits a violation on the territory of the Republic of Armenia using a vehicle not registered in Armenia, they will be identified and will receive a notification regarding the administrative fine, with the opportunity to pay and settle the fine at the border. Currently, this opportunity does not exist for foreigners committing such violations using vehicles registered in Armenia.

The main speaker indicated that the proposed amendment relates directly to this provision. “We propose that if a foreigner commits a traffic rule violation in Armenia using a vehicle registered in Armenia, they will also be notified of the fines, allowing them to pay and settle the fines at the border,” said Ghazaryan.

If the draft is adopted, an increase in revenue is expected in the state budget, as the Republic of Armenia will save approximately 90,000,000 drams annually.
