Rubio Reveals Controversial Point in Ukraine Peace Plan
United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has given an interview to Fox News in which he highlighted a key point causing disputes regarding the peace plan for Ukraine. According to him, a significant obstacle has been the 20 percent of the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic still under Kyiv's control. This was reported by lenta.ru.
“What they are literally arguing about right now is roughly a 30-50 kilometer area and 20% of the Donetsk region that remains under Ukraine’s control. We have tried to figure out what Ukrainians can live with that will ensure their security in the future,” Rubio stated.
Rubio noted that the U.S. has made some progress in its efforts to clarify this issue, though he did not provide information on any resolution to the dispute.
He also mentioned the countries responsible for ending the conflict in Ukraine. “The United States continues to work towards crisis resolution, but the decision on its conclusion will be made only by the two countries — Russia and Ukraine. Ultimately, it is their decision: If they decide they do not want to end the war, then it will continue. But we will strive to end it,” he added.
