EU May Get Involved in the 'Trump Corridor' Project

The European Union's High Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, has addressed the potential involvement of the EU in the 'Trump Corridor' (TRIPP) project. According to a correspondent from Armenpress, Kos spoke on this topic during a meeting with a group of Armenian journalists in Brussels, responding to a question about whether the EU is considering the possibility of participating in the 'Trump Corridor' project.

Discussing the EU's possible involvement in the 'Trump Corridor' project, the High Commissioner for Enlargement noted that the implementation of this project is a matter of agreement between Armenia and the United States. Kos emphasized that the EU is also in discussions with the USA on this issue, keeping in mind a broader picture of connectivity.

'This is a road from Central Asia to Europe. This (referring to the 'Trump Corridor') is merely a 42-kilometer stretch of road. It is very important for us that whatever we do, it should not only pertain to this 42-kilometer segment but also include everything going east and everything going west, and that should happen simultaneously,' said the EU High Commissioner.

She informed that Armenia's Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Davit Khudatyan, has been asked to present a list of priorities important for Armenia in terms of ensuring this overall connectivity. 'We also have our own ideas. We are discussing these issues with Turkey and Azerbaijan as well. Thus, it makes no sense for us to do this piece by piece. But in this regard, the cooperation or involvement of the United States has much greater significance than merely constructing a 42-kilometer railroad,' emphasized Marta Kos.

It is noteworthy that Armenia, the United States, and Azerbaijan signed a declaration in Washington on August 8, which stipulates that Armenia and the United States will work together to implement the 'Trump Corridor (TRIPP) project' within the framework of unblocking communications in the South Caucasus and will also serve as the road connecting Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan through Armenia. The declaration states that Armenia and the USA will jointly coordinate the potential involvement of third parties in the project. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has stated that the 'Trump Corridor' is an integral part of the 'Peace Crossroad' initiative presented by the Armenian government.
