NATO Explores Possibility of 'Preemptive' Strikes Against Russia

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is discussing the issue of preemptive actions in response to Russia's alleged aggressive operations, but such a decision faces several legal challenges, said Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Chairman of NATO's Military Committee, in an interview with the Financial Times, as reported by TASS.

"We are examining everything. In the cyber realm, we are more reactive. More aggressive or preemptive actions, rather than just reacting, is what we are discussing," Dragone stated.

He added that the alliance may view preemptive strikes as defensive actions. However, as Dragone pointed out, this goes beyond NATO's traditional mindset or behavior. He explained that the difficulties relate to legal frameworks, jurisdictional issues, and the question of who would actually carry out such operations.

Earlier, Russia's Ambassador to Belgium, Denis Gonchar, stated that NATO, by frightening its population with non-existent plans of Kremlin attacks on alliance countries, has begun to prepare for a major war with Russia.
