The Death Toll from Floods and Landslides in Indonesia Exceeds 400: Details

The death toll from floods and landslides on the Indonesian island of Sumatra has sharply increased, reaching 442, according to BBC News.

Currently, evacuation efforts are underway, major roads are closed, and both internet and electricity services have only been partially restored.

Torrential monsoons intensified by tropical storms have led to the most severe flooding in Southeast Asia in recent years. Hundreds of people have died and gone missing in Malaysia and Thailand as well, with millions affected across the region.

A rare tropical storm named Cyclone Sen-Ya has caused disastrous landslides and floods in Indonesia, leading to homes being swept away and thousands of buildings submerged under water.

Adverse weather conditions have complicated rescue operations, and although tens of thousands have been evacuated, hundreds still remain in critical condition, reported Indonesia's disaster management agency.
