Poland Demands $1.3 Trillion from Germany for WWII Damages

Poland's Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau has officially signed a letter demanding Germany pay $1.3 trillion for the damages inflicted upon Poland during World War II.

It has been noted that Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has stated that Berlin will not pay Poland any new reparations for World War II.

“Germany bears its historical responsibility for this, without any ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’... At the same time, the issue of reparations is closed from the perspective of the federal government,” Baerbock said, urging Poland to look to a “common future.”

It is important to highlight that in 1953, Poland renounced reparations, and German authorities have upheld this decision to this day. Additionally, in 1991, Berlin paid Warsaw €1.3 billion as part of a friendship agreement.
