Record Number of Drones Detected Over German Military Bases
In Germany, October saw the highest number of unidentified drones recorded over military bases. Reuters reported this, citing Thorsten Ackmann, the Deputy Chief of Germany's Military Intelligence.
Previously, drones have frequently been spotted over army and air force bases, as well as on sites where exercises are conducted involving Ukrainian military personnel.
On October 1, Spiegel reported that drones observed around Kiel, Germany, likely soared near critical infrastructure, including a power plant, a university hospital, and the building of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament.
On October 31, flights were temporarily suspended at the Berlin-Brandenburg (BER) airport due to the presence of a drone.
Since the autumn of 2025, Russia has been regularly violating the airspace of NATO member countries. Russian drones and aircraft, along with unidentified UAVs, have been frequently detected over the territories of Poland, Romania, Estonia, Denmark, Spain, Latvia, France, Germany, and other countries.
European airports are regularly shut down due to drone threats. On October 9, the European Parliament passed a resolution calling on EU member states to target drones and aircraft that illegally breach their airspace.
