Sharp Rise in Acute Respiratory Infections in Armenia

During the 47th week, Armenia continues to report active morbidity related to acute respiratory infections. This information has been provided by the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The morbidity rate due to acute respiratory infections has increased by 1.2 times compared to the previous week. A significant 80% of total cases involve individuals aged 0 to 18 years.

Currently, H3N2 strain viruses of type A influenza are circulating in Armenia, along with other respiratory infection pathogens such as rhinovirus, bocavirus, adenovirus, and parainfluenza.

Ahead of the acute respiratory infection season, a 'epidemic filter' has been implemented in preschool and general education institutions, which means that if specific indicators are exceeded, the school or educational institution shifts to remote learning.

As of November 28, a total of 55,635 absences have been recorded for acute respiratory infections, with 8,064 corresponding to a rate of 14.4% of total absences. Of these 8,064 absentees due to acute respiratory infections, 104 cases were identified through the 'epidemic filter' and sent home.

The National Center for Disease Control and Prevention reiterates and urges the public to: - get vaccinated against seasonal influenza by visiting a polyclinic/ambulatory clinic, - avoid contact with individuals exhibiting symptoms characteristic of acute respiratory infections, - stay at home if you are sick, especially with symptoms of acute respiratory infections, - do not permit children to attend school and kindergarten without medical consultation and treatment, - call your district pediatrician, therapist, or family doctor if you are unwell, - refrain from self-medication, - do not use antibiotics, as they are not indicated for the treatment of influenza and acute respiratory infections, - dress appropriately for the weather, - maintain cough and sneeze etiquette, - drink plenty of fluids, - ventilate enclosed spaces frequently, - follow personal hygiene practices.
