The Flame for the 2026 Winter Olympics Ignited in Greece
The flame for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games has been lit in the ancient city of Olympia, Greece. The games are set to take place in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.
Due to adverse weather conditions, the ceremonial event was moved from the ancient stadium to the Archaeological Museum. The torch was ignited using a reserve flame that was sparked by sunlight during the main rehearsal at the ancient temple of the goddess Hera.
This year, after a brief journey through Greece, the flame will embark on a 63-day relay through Italy. It will cover 12,000 kilometers, visiting all 110 provinces of the country, and conclude its journey on February 6 at the San Siro Stadium in Milan.
