“Numerous forces from the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Rescue Service, as well as employees from state and local government agencies, are involved in the firefighting efforts. Necessary equipment is also being utilized. The firefighting operations are organized and managed on-site by an operational headquarters that has been established. The headquarters is led by Kamo Tsutsulyan, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Director of the Rescue Service. Narek Sargsyan, the press secretary of the Minister of Internal Affairs, coordinates communications with the media, providing operational information and updates on the current situation,” the report stated.
Thanks to operational and coordinated measures, fires in the following areas have been completely extinguished: the village of Dzorashen in Shirak Province, the road section between Chambarak and Ttujur in Gegharkunik Province, the village of Verin Hand in Syunik Province, and the “Kazachi” area in Dilijan, Tavush Province. The fire in the Navur community of Tavush Province has been contained. Intensive firefighting efforts continue in forest areas near the Dilijan winding roads and the “Mountainous Armenia” spa.
Mainly, grassland and vegetation areas have burned, and some trees have been scorched. Currently, the operations are fully controlled, and the ongoing activities will continue until all fire sources are completely extinguished.
It is with great sorrow that we report a tragic incident during the large-scale operations: a firefighter, Sergent Taron Simonian, has lost his life while fulfilling his service duties. Four other servicemen continue to receive necessary medical assistance. The Ministry of Internal Affairs extends its deepest condolences to the family, relatives, and colleagues of the deceased serviceman.
We again urge the public to strictly adhere to fire safety regulations, remain vigilant, and to immediately call 911 if any fire or smoke is noticed. It should be noted that regularly updated information is available on the official platforms of the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Rescue Service.
