Trump's Proposed Peace Plan Needs Revision: Macron
French President Emmanuel Macron has stated in an interview with RTL radio that the peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump needs improvement in order to align with the expectations of Ukraine and European countries. He noted that the initiative is moving in the direction of peace, but certain aspects of the plan require discussion and refinement.
“This is an initiative that is going in the right direction towards peace. However, some aspects of this plan are subject to discussion and improvement,” Macron said. “We want peace, but we do not want a peace that is, in practical terms, a capitulation,” he added.
Macron further emphasized that decisions regarding territorial concessions can only be made by the Ukrainians. According to him, the plan indicates what is acceptable for Russia, but that does not mean Ukraine or European countries must accept it. “Does this mean Ukrainians and Europeans should accept exactly this? The answer is no,” he stressed.
The French President also mentioned that in the event of a potential peace with Russia, Ukraine's first defensive line should be the restoration of its army, which, according to him, cannot be subject to restrictions.
