Expert Warns: Reels and TikTok are Disrupting Concentration

Do you feel that concentrating has become more difficult? The reason may lie in short videos (Reels, TikTok, Shorts). This was highlighted by media expert Samvel Martirosyan on his Facebook page.

“An international new study, which included more than 98,000 participants, revealed how short videos (Short-Form Videos) impact our brains and mental health. The results are concerning. Here are the key findings:

First casualty: attention. The research found that the misuse of short videos negatively affects cognitive abilities. The most affected areas are attention and inhibitory control. Our brains learn to quickly receive 'rewards' (dopamine), and as a result, it becomes difficult to focus on long-term, intellectual work.

If we indulge in short content, we become foolish.

Stress and anxiety - Active use of these platforms is associated with increased feelings of stress, anxiety, and loneliness. A negative correlation with sleep quality has also been established - something we all feel.

Age matters not. It is commonly believed that dependence on social networks is only a problem for teenagers. However, this analysis has shown that the negative impact is the same for both young people and adults.

“Dependency” is more dangerous than the amount of time spent. An interesting fact: the problems are more related not to how many hours you watch but to how much control you lose (for example, being unable to stop).

Conclusion: “Endless scrolling” trains our brains to constantly be distracted. If you feel that concentrating has become an issue, gather yourself,” he wrote.
