Karegin II Receives Defenders of Grigori Khachaturov

The Catholicos of All Armenians, Garegin II, welcomed members of the public defense initiative for the former commander of the 3rd Army Corps, Major General Grigori Khachaturov. This was reported by the press service of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

The defenders of Grigori Khachaturov presented concerns about the legality of the general's detention and emphasized the urgent need for his immediate release.

The Catholicos expressed his appreciation for the initiative and conveyed his blessings to its members.

The initiative consists of 12 members, including the Archbishop of Tavush Diocese, Bagrat Galstanyan, People's Artist of Armenia Hrant Tokhatyan, Honored Artist Davit Amalyan, world and European champion wrestler Arsen Julfalakyan, among others.

It should be noted that on February 21, a public criminal prosecution was initiated against Grigori Khachaturov for legalizing real estate acquired through criminal means using his official position (money laundering). He was arrested, and the prosecutor's office submitted a request for his detention.

However, Anti-Corruption Court Judge Tigran Davtyan rejected the motion. Khachaturov was released from the courtroom on the same day.

On February 24, the Prosecutor General's Office filed a special review appeal with the Court of Appeals against the decision to reject the detention request against Grigori Khachaturov. On March 16, after reviewing the prosecutor's appeal, the Appellate Court decided to detain Grigori Khachaturov.

It is noteworthy that Khachaturov's charges are linked to the case of former Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, the head of the Armenia faction.
