Russian Foreign Ministry Comments on Damage to Azerbaijani Embassy in Kyiv

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the damage caused to the Azerbaijani embassy complex in Kyiv was likely the result of the inaccurate operation of Ukraine's armed forces' air defense systems. This assessment was made following a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin and Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Moscow, Rahman Mustafayev, as reported by TASS.

According to the ministry's information, the preliminary assessment indicates that the cause of the incident was the fall of a Patriot air defense missile. Galuzin informed the ambassador that Moscow is thoroughly examining Baku's request regarding the damage to the diplomatic representation.

The Russian side expressed its sincere condolences regarding the incident. The statement emphasized that the damage to the Azerbaijani diplomatic representation in Kyiv was likely due to the erroneous operation of Ukraine's armed forces' air defense systems. The Ministry highlighted that Azerbaijan has been reminded that during special military operations, the Russian Armed Forces target only legitimate military objectives, including facilities of Ukraine's defense industry located in Kyiv.

It was further noted that meticulous analysis is conducted during the planning of strikes to eliminate civilian casualties, taking into account the location of foreign diplomatic representations.

Recall that on November 14, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador Mikhail Evdokimov in Baku and handed him a note of protest regarding the alleged fall of Russian Iskander missile fragments on the territory of the Azerbaijani embassy. In Russia's response, it was stated that Ukrainian media had published numerous photos showing that the buildings were damaged by a Patriot missile.
