A New Street Named After Mesrop Mashtots Opens in Astana

In the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, a ceremonial event was held today for the opening of a new street named after Mesrop Mashtots. The event was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Mher Grigoryan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, as well as Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister Serik Jumangarin and Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balaeva, among other officials, as reported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia.

Welcoming the participants of the event, Minister Andreasyan noted that a new page is being opened in the history of mutual respect, friendship, and cultural cooperation between the two nations. According to her, Mesrop Mashtots is not only foundational to the spiritual and cultural identity of the Armenian people but is also one of the significant contributors to human civilization, whose legacy has preserved the bridge of education, culture, and historical memory through the ages.

The minister also emphasized the symbolic significance of the first translated Armenian sentence: 'Recognize wisdom and instruction, know the words of the genius,' which has become an important message directed to the Armenian people and a continuous call.

Andreasyan recalled that this April, a park in the Avan district of Yerevan was named after Abai Kunanbaev, the founder of Kazakh literature, presenting it as a testament to mutual respect and cultural ties. According to her, the symbolic places created in Yerevan and Astana become bridges that unite the values of both nations: peace, education, creativity, and friendship.

Kazakhstan's Minister of Culture and Information, Aida Balaeva, in her speech, emphasized that the opening of Mesrop Mashtots Street is a significant milestone marked by friendship between the two countries. She stated that Mashtots’ activity confirms that culture begins with language, and societal development stems from education. Balaeva added that this year marks the 33rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Kazakhstan, during which significant achievements have been recorded in various sectors.

It is noted that a memorandum is also set to be signed during the event to deepen cooperation in the fields of museums, libraries, and cinematography. Furthermore, it is mentioned that Minister Zhanna Andreasyan is on an official visit to Kazakhstan from November 20-21 as part of a delegation headed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
