Tensions Escalate as IAEA Board Demands Immediate Data from Iran
The International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) governing board, consisting of 35 member states, has passed a resolution demanding that Iran immediately inform the oversight body about its enriched uranium stockpiles and the status of its bombed nuclear facilities. The document also emphasizes that Tehran is obliged to grant the IAEA access to nuclear sites.
The resolution was presented by the European trio of Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, along with the United States. Iran had previously warned that such a decision could negatively impact its cooperation with the IAEA.
Following the adoption of the resolution, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that the country would suspend the agreement reached between Iran and the IAEA in Cairo. A corresponding letter has been sent to the IAEA Director General.
Additionally, Iran, along with seven other countries, has issued a joint statement criticizing the adoption of the resolution.
