Fishing for Carp in Lake Sevan Banned, Strict Penalties to Follow Violations

According to the decision No. 865-N of the government dated June 26, 2025, fishing for carp in Lake Sevan will be strictly prohibited from November 20, 2025, until February 1, 2026. The Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia has announced this information. This decision is a strategic step to ensure the biodiversity of Lake Sevan.

The primary goal is to support the natural reproduction of carp, thereby ensuring the stable and effective recovery of the lake's fish stock. Violations of fishing rules, as well as illegal fishing, will result in strict administrative and criminal penalties as stipulated by law.

“After November 20, punitive measures established by law will be applied to boats and fishing equipment found in Lake Sevan; we urge timely removal of these items,” the statement emphasizes.
