Sniper Shot Dead Under Suspicious Circumstances After Demobilization on March 1: Garik Sargsyan

Mariam Z.

On March 1, a sniper who had been serving was shot dead under suspicious circumstances after his demobilization. This was announced today during a press briefing with reporters by Garik Sargsyan, the head of the Vedi enlarged community, who did not specify when the killing occurred.

“We only need to clarify who issued the orders for the snipers' actions and under what circumstances they were killed. I cannot divulge their nationality, but I know for certain that they are not Armenian. I cannot disclose the source, because if I do, I will have to be summoned as a witness for interrogation and so on. I learned about this back in 2018. I know the sniper by name and surname but cannot disclose it,” he stated.

He noted that on March 1, two young men from their community were killed—Tigran Abgaryan and Samvel Harutyunyan. “Samvel Harutyunyan's father, Edik Harutyunyan, is here now. I immediately participated in the rallies and marches before the clash; I was a second-year student and saw many things with my own eyes. It’s not that someone told me about it,” he added.

Regarding the view that Nikol Pashinyan incited the events, Garik Sargsyan stated, “If Nikol Pashinyan hadn’t restrained the participants of the gathering, we might have had over 100 casualties. He was saying, ‘Stay here, don’t leave near the French embassy, don’t go to provocations. You should form barricades for your own safety, to protect yourselves.’”
