This Is Not the First Time They Lose, This Thesis Comes Up: Babken Tunyan on the Elections in Vagharshapat
The logic of these individuals: They say that in Vagharshapat, the ruling party received 48.6% of the votes cast, but since more than half of the potential voters did not go to the polls, it means that only 21-22% of the residents of Vagharshapat elected Argishti Mekhakyan. Therefore, this is not a victory; Mekhakyan is the mayor of the minority. This was written by MP Babken Tunyan on his Facebook page.
“This is not the first time. When they lose, they bring up this thesis. However, for example, when someone became mayor in Gyumri by receiving the vote of only 8.5% of those entitled to vote (9,500 votes out of 111,000), they considered it a great victory. Neither the low turnout hindered them, nor the criminal biography of the mayor, nor the fact that the winner was nominated on the Communist Party list. Nevertheless, that’s their business. Argishti Mekhakyan will be the mayor not only for those who elected him, but also for those who voted for the opposition and for those who did not participate in the elections. I am confident that with his dedicated work, together with the government, he will make Vagharshapat a more prosperous, beautiful, and convenient city. Argishti, good luck to you, and may you have patience and fruitful work,” Tunyan wrote.
It is noteworthy that the candidate of the Civil Contract party, Argishti Mekhakyan, has preliminarily been declared the winner of the elections in Vagharshapat.
