Mobile Phone Use in Schools is Being Restricted: Details
In Yerevan, a program has been initiated to restrict the use of smart devices, including phones, in schools under its jurisdiction. This approach has been proposed for implementation in all schools through a relevant circular, ensuring awareness-raising activities among both students and parents. This was mentioned today, November 17, during a regular operational meeting of the Yerevan City Hall by Margarita Khachatryan, head of the Department of General Education.
She noted that it has been recorded that regulations concerning these restrictions have already been established in the internal disciplinary rules of 143 out of 151 schools in Yerevan, while eight schools have developed a document that will be presented at the upcoming meetings of the school management boards for approval.
In his turn, Mayor Tigran Avinyan stated, “I believe this is a very important initiative and the understanding of this initiative by the directors of schools is very encouraging. International studies confidently show that the prohibition and restriction of smart devices in schools have a significantly positive impact on the educational process, the general mood of children, and their grades. I believe that after some time from this process, we should conduct our studies to understand what results these restrictions have yielded in terms of digital metrics in Yerevan. I am confident that they will be positive; we just need to understand the scale and also voice this.”
