Hamas Tries to Avoid Loss of Military Resources

According to Ynet, representatives of Hamas have proposed to the Palestinian Authority to temporarily accept their weapons for "safekeeping" to avoid their destruction.

Amid complications arising from proceeding to the second phase regarding the implementation of U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan, senior Hamas officials approached the Palestinian Authority to discuss an agreement on the safekeeping of the organization's arsenal. Sources indicate that through this step, Hamas aims to prevent the potential destruction of its weapons and seeks to reach a solution whereby the arsenal would be transferred to the Palestinian state for preservation.

The organization is concerned about the threat of resuming hostilities with Israel and wants to ensure that it can access its weapons at any given moment. However, representatives of the Palestinian Authority have emphasized that Hamas's proposal is completely unacceptable. According to the publication, the PA leadership's spokesperson, Hussein al-Sheikh, sharply rejected the initiative, stating that it does not align with the interests and security policies of the Palestinian Authority.
