Eduard Spertsyan Reflects on Loss to Portugal
The captain of Armenia's national football team, Eduard Spertsyan, addressed the crushing 9:1 defeat against Portugal in the World Cup qualifying round.
“That’s how football goes. But such matches give us greater motivation to grow. We will not give up and will continue to work; everything is still ahead of us. Thank you to everyone who supported us,” Spertsyan wrote on his social media pages.
It is worth noting that during the last round of the World Cup qualifying phase, the Armenian team faced Portugal in the city of Porto and suffered the heaviest defeat in recent history. The Portugal national team secured a spot in the 2026 World Cup, while Armenia finished last in their group.
