Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister on Further Nuclear Program Negotiations with the EU Trio
Tehran is no longer inclined to discuss issues related to its nuclear program with the EU Trio (United Kingdom, Germany, and France), said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh in an interview with TASS.
He noted that this decision was made after the EU Trio attempted to apply the "restoration mechanism," which would reinstate UN Security Council sanctions against Iran.
On September 19, the UN Security Council rejected a resolution to extend the deadline for lifting sanctions against Iran. Representatives from the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Greece, Denmark, Somalia, Panama, Slovenia, and Sierra Leone opposed the draft resolution. Meanwhile, Russia, China, Pakistan, and Algeria supported the lifting of the sanctions.
On September 28, EU Foreign Affairs Minister Kaia Kallas announced that the EU would begin to restore sanctions against Iran.
