“A Very Wrong and Dangerous Step”: Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry Addresses EU's Decision to Send Aid to Armenia
The European Union's decision to send military aid to Armenia, following France's actions of equipping the same country with 'Bastion' multifunctional armored vehicles and 'Caesar' self-propelled artillery systems, is characterized as a very wrong and dangerous step that serves to escalate tensions in the region.
This statement was made by Ayhan Hacizadeh, the spokesperson for Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, in response to media inquiries. He noted, 'Such actions by the European Union are clearly unilateral and biased, manifesting a policy of creating 'dividing lines' in the region.'
Hacizadeh emphasized that the military assistance mentioned would contribute to strengthening Armenia's military capabilities, which has been occupying a part of Azerbaijan's territory for 30 years and currently does not refrain from encroachments on our territorial integrity, as well as its destructive activities in the region.
He added, 'We categorically protest this decision of the European Council and expect transparent information regarding the aid. The European Union must put an end to such actions that promote armament and militarization in the region and understand that there is no alternative to peace and cooperation in the region. Otherwise, the EU will share responsibility for any possible provocation directed against stability by Armenia.'
