Clarification on Absence of Removal Requests from Voter Lists
The Migration and Citizenship Service has issued a statement regarding the reports from the Tatoian Foundation observers. Below is the clarification from the Migration and Citizenship Service:
“We would like to inform you regarding the reports from the Tatoian Foundation observers that the presence of deceased individuals in the voter lists is due to the fact that the Migration and Citizenship Service does not always have information about a person's death in certain cases. In the Republic of Armenia, data about deceased individuals are removed from the state population register at the time of issuing a death certificate by the Civil Status Acts Registration Authority, coinciding with the invalidation of the Armenian citizen's passport.
For individuals who have died outside the territory of Armenia, data are removed from the state population register upon the presentation of a death certificate, which has been duly translated and notarized, by the interested party to the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. This process is also organized through checks conducted by community police.
Regarding the citizen registered at “22 Saint Mesrop Mashtots Street, Apartment 44, Ejmiatsin,” we inform you that the registration of this individual was completed on September 26, 1996, in accordance with the law. At the same time, we would like to inform you that no request for the removal of this individual's registration has been received at any territorial subdivision of the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. The owner or any co-owner may approach any territorial subdivision for the removal of a deceased individual from registration, specifically the Vagarshapat subdivision of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.”
