Venezuela's President Offers Trump a Deal
The New York Times reports that Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro has proposed a deal to Trump. The United States would gain control over a significant portion of Venezuela's oil reserves—among the largest in the world, approximately 300 billion barrels—in exchange for preventing military conflict.
Despite recent news suggesting Trump has halted negotiations, a senior official from the administration stated yesterday that discussions have not been completely suspended. He argued that the deployment of the CVN-78 Gerald Ford aircraft carrier in the region should strengthen Trump’s position and provide him with additional leverage against Maduro.
