Aliya Ozdamirova, Fleeing Chechnya, Forcefully Extradited from Georgia and Killed
Aliya Ozdamirova, who fled Chechnya, was forcefully deported from Georgia and killed. Kadyrov's henchmen are targeting young women who sought to escape their medieval world and start a normal life without the control of their oppressive relatives.
According to human rights defenders from the SK SOS crisis group, the 33-year-old Chechen was deported to Russia and subsequently murdered. They believe her killing was likely orchestrated by her relatives.
Aliya left Chechnya on October 20 after threats due to her sexual orientation and a conflict with her brothers over her business became public knowledge. Human rights advocates reported that she was accused of stealing investors' funds and was brutally beaten.
In early November, she was tricked into meeting with a so-called 'lawyer' who allegedly informed her of a 'terrorism financing' case against her. Later, her influential uncle, Ali Asayev, promised her assistance in leaving but actually facilitated her unlawful crossing over the border.
Reports of her death circulated the following day, and she was buried on November 12. Friends believe it was an 'honor killing' perpetrated by her relatives.
Ozdamirova came from a wealthy family; her father, Usman Ozdamirov, was a close ally of Ramzan Kadyrov and the head of the Gudermes district. After his death in 2020, there was no one to protect her from familial violence.
It is noteworthy that Kadyrov's men previously killed two other women attempting to flee from relatives in Chechnya: Aishat Baymuradova and Seda Suleymanova.
