Restoration of the Armenian Surb Sarkis Church in Turkey

The governor of Diyarbakir province in eastern Turkey, Murad Zorluoglu, visited the Armenian Surb Sarkis Orthodox Church, which has a history of approximately 500 years, to review the ongoing construction work.

Located in the Ali Pasha neighborhood of the Sur district, the church has been damaged over time due to the absence of the community, and it suffered additional damage during the powerful earthquakes in Kahramanmaras on February 6, 2023. This was reported by Ermenihaber.am.

During the visit, the governor was informed about the construction works that started in 2024 and stated that they place great importance on the preservation of cultural heritage. “After the completion of the restoration work, this historical structure will make a significant contribution to the historical fabric of Sur and the cultural diversity of the city,” declared the governor of Diyarbakir.
