Government Plans to Increase State Duty on Metal Products
The Government of Armenia is drafting an amendment to the law on state duties, aimed at boosting the country's heavy industry and protecting local metal processing manufacturers.
“The draft proposes increasing the state duty to 55,000 drams per ton, up from the current 29,000 drams,” said Sergey Bagratyan, a deputy from the Civil Contract party, during a discussion in the National Assembly.
This change is intended to balance the prices of imported and domestically produced metallic products, reducing the negative impact of cheap imports on the local market.
In recent years, the government has also banned the export of scrap metal and waste of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, encouraging their local processing and the development of higher value-added products.
