European Commission Does Not Invite Georgia to EU Enlargement Conference
The European Commission has not invited representatives from Georgia to the EU enlargement conference scheduled for next week in Brussels. This was announced by European Commission spokesman Guillaume Mercy during a press briefing in Brussels.
“In a report previously published on EU enlargement, the European Commission stated that Georgia is currently considered only a nominal candidate for EU membership. The European Commission can confirm that Georgia has not been invited to the enlargement conference,” he said.
Mercy emphasized that the European Commission accuses Georgia of backsliding on democratic norms and European values.
The European Commission's conference supporting EU enlargement will take place on November 18 in Brussels with the participation of representatives from candidate countries.
