Deputy Minister of Economy on Importing Grade 4 Wheat from Kazakhstan

Deputy Minister of Economy Edgar Zakaryan has stated that the Grade 4 wheat arriving from Kazakhstan is necessary for the Armenian market.

In a conversation with reporters, Zakaryan addressed the question of why Grade 4 wheat was imported into Armenia. According to him, this type of wheat is still in demand as it is used in the production of animal feed and in bread production when mixed with higher-grade wheat. “This means that such wheat is also needed for the Republic of Armenia. Wheat is still wheat, right?” remarked the Deputy Minister.

He pointed out that the important factor is the diversification of import routes, not the grade of the imported wheat. “Today Grade 4 wheat has arrived; tomorrow high-grade wheat will come, and life will show that,” he added.

According to ministry data, the Russian wheat that reached Armenia by railway is of high grade. The train loaded with Kazakh wheat arrived on November 8, passing through the territories of Kazakhstan, Russia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. Approximately 1,000 tons of wheat have reached Armenia through this shipment.

Earlier, the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture had reported that the wheat sent through Azerbaijan to Armenia is of Grade 4. Previously, around 1,000 tons of wheat had also been transferred from Russia via the same route.

This import from Kazakhstan and Russia followed the announcements made by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding the lifting of restrictions on the transit of goods through the territories of both countries.
