Georgia Resisted, Armenia Conceded: Sargsyan
During the release of the "Imnennimi" podcast, Armenia’s third president Serzh Sargsyan commented on why the Georgian authorities did not concede to the opposition amidst Western support, while in 2018, the authorities in Armenia gave way.
"My respects to the Georgian authorities, I have always had a warm attitude towards and continue to have a warm attitude towards the Georgian people. I believe that, first, the Georgian opposition failed to convince Georgian citizens until the end that taxes would be reduced in the event of a change of power, that Georgia would become a paradise, and that the wealthy would share their money with the poor. It may not be correct to conclude this, but I think the opposition lacked individuals prepared for a revolution. The second point is that the Georgian ruling elite is very cohesive, and the third point is that at least one of the geopolitical centers had a neutral-positive attitude," said Sargsyan. When asked for clarification if he meant Russia, he replied, "yes."
