Russia Has Yet to Receive Clarifications: Lavrov on Trump's Nuclear Testing Statement
Russia has not yet received clarifications from the United States via diplomatic channels regarding Trump's statements on resuming nuclear tests, stated Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Earlier, Trump announced that he had ordered an immediate start to nuclear weapons testing on an equal basis with countries that he claims have nuclear weapons programs. He tied his decision to the existence of testing programs in other countries.
According to Trump, the United States has the largest nuclear arsenal, but China could catch up within five years. During a joint press conference with Xi Jinping in Buenos Aires, Trump did not respond to reporters' questions about why he announced the immediate start of testing.
Previously, in commenting on Russia's testing of the nuclear-powered "Burevestnik" cruise missile, Trump stated that the world's best nuclear submarine is located right off the coast of Russia.
