Russian Foreign Ministry Issues Statement on Armenia and Azerbaijan

The agreements reached by the leaders of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan on November 9, 2020, have not lost their relevance. This was stated in the Russian Foreign Ministry's announcement regarding the agreements for the upcoming five years.

The ministry emphasizes that as a result of hours-long negotiations among the leaders of the three countries, it became possible to halt the bloodshed and begin the process of restoring peaceful life in the region. According to the statement, the Russian peacekeeping troops have played a significant role in maintaining stability and security, even at the cost of their personnel's lives.

It is noted that subsequently, the parties signed three more statements concerning the opening of communications, delimitation, and demarcation of borders. In total, these four high-level statements are considered a 'roadmap' for the peace process. They remain in force and are being implemented by both Armenia and Azerbaijan, including during direct dialogues.

The announcement highlights that even five years later, Baku and Yerevan still have much work to do to stabilize the resolution process. This includes signing a peace treaty, restoring transport and economic ties, clearly defining borders, and developing civilian contacts for the benefit of all countries in the South Caucasus.

Russia has stated that it is ready to continue supporting its Armenian and Azerbaijani partners in all directions, including within the framework of the '3+3' regional cooperation platform (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Russia, Iran, Turkey).
