EU Calls on Serbia to Halt Citizenship for Russians

The European Commission has urged Serbia to cease its current policy of granting citizenship to Russians, stressing that it could jeopardize the stability of the European Union's migration and security systems.

According to the Commission, Russians who become citizens of Serbia gain the ability to enter EU territory visa-free, which, in Brussels' assessment, may be used to circumvent EU regulations.

The European Commission has warned that if Belgrade does not review its citizenship policy, the EU may reconsider the conditions of Serbia's visa-free regime.
