Aliyev's Use of 'Goycha' Contradicts Peace Rhetoric, Ararat Mirzoyan
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, has responded to the recent statement by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, in which the latter referred to Lake Sevan as 'Goycha.' According to Mirzoyan, such formulations do not fit within the framework of a peace agenda and a climate of trust.
“If we are truly talking about establishing peace in the region, then the use of such historical names, which carry a clear political connotation, does not contribute to the formation of mutual trust,” said Mirzoyan.
The minister added that Armenia remains committed to the peace process and expects Baku to adopt a similar approach, refraining from statements that could hinder dialogue.
Mirzoyan also emphasized that linguistic or historical manipulations cannot replace genuine political will aimed at ensuring stability in the region.
