How Many Teachers Have Applied for Certification: Minister Provides Details
In Armenia, more than 6,300 teachers have voluntarily undergone certification to increase their remuneration. This was announced by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, during a joint meeting of two permanent committees in the National Assembly, discussing the preliminary draft of the 2026 state budget.
On October 23, the ministry published the dates, times, and testing centers for the voluntary certification, noting that the changes pertain to teachers of general education schools. Teachers of history from various regions of Armenia, numbering 300, submitted an open letter to the ministry demanding a change in the deadlines, which they claimed had been changed at the last minute. On October 27, the minister issued an order to postpone the certification dates by one week.
According to Andreasyan, in 2019, more than 2,200 teachers in Armenia did not have higher education, while today this number has decreased to 594. The latter group has also voluntarily undergone certification and confirmed their professional knowledge. Currently, more than 6,300 teachers have already been voluntarily certified, and around 8,400 have submitted applications to participate, with the process set to commence this week.
She added that about half of the teachers have either undergone voluntary certification or applied to join the system. Andreasyan also noted that over 20 billion drams is planned for teacher incentive programs in 2026, which is double the amount allocated for 2024.
