EU's Blackmail Will Not Force Georgia to Change Its Course - Papuashvili

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, has stated that the criticism and political pressure from the European Union will not force Tbilisi to change its strategic direction. According to him, the recent report from the European Commission, which presents Georgia in a negative light, is viewed as an attempt to coerce the country into complying with Brussels' political will.

“What should have contributed to democracy, economic freedom, and cooperation has turned into an attempt at political control. This is not only an ideological pressure but also a political one coming from the European Commission and certain groups within the European Parliament,” noted Papuashvili.

At the same time, he emphasized that blackmail and pressure cannot affect the country's decision. “Georgia will not abandon its goal of preparing for EU membership. We aspire to a Europe based on real values, not bureaucratic approaches,” added the Speaker of Parliament.
