112 Dead Seals Discovered on the Caspian Sea Shore
The ecology department of Kazakhstan's Mangystau region reported that 112 dead seals (Caspian seals) have been found on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
Experts have taken water samples to determine the possible causes of the animals' deaths. This incident is not the first occurrence of mass seal deaths along the Caspian Sea coast. Similar incidents have been recorded in previous years.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, potential causes of seal deaths in 2024 could include highly contagious avian influenza virus, neuroviruses leading to weakened immune systems, as well as asphyxiation due to natural gas emissions from the seabed.
Experts note that laboratory tests will help establish the primary cause of the animals' deaths.
