Request to Arrest the Brother and Nephew of the Catholicos

The investigative body has submitted a request to the first instance general jurisdiction court of the Armavir region (Judge Artak Babakhanian) to arrest 68-year-old Gevorg Nersisyan and his son, Hambartsum Nersisyan. This was reported by lawyer Ara Zohrebyan.

It should be noted that the brother of the Catholicos, Gevorg Nersisyan, and his son, Hambartsum Nersisyan, were arrested yesterday in Vagharshapat based on the statement of the Republic Party’s candidate Harutyun Mkrtchyan, who claimed that the Nersisyans attempted to obstruct the electoral campaign, an allegation that, according to lawyer Ara Zohrebyan, is a false accusation. According to the investigative committee, public criminal prosecution has been initiated against two individuals during the preliminary investigation of the criminal case under Article 211 of the Criminal Code (forcibly compelling someone to conduct or refrain from conducting propaganda or otherwise obstructing propaganda).
