Germany Transfers Patriot Systems to Ukraine, Says Zelensky

Ukraine has received Patriot systems from Germany. The negotiations around further strengthening the country's air defense continue, announced President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to RBC-Ukraine.

"We have integrated the Patriot components into our Ukrainian air defense. I am grateful to Germany and personally to Chancellor Friedrich Merz for this joint step to protect lives from Russian terror," he emphasized.

Zelensky noted that the countries had prepared for this enhancement of air defense for some time, and now the agreements have been fulfilled. "Russia's airstrikes are Putin's main gamble in this war; through terrorism, he seeks to compensate for his inability to achieve his crazy goals on the ground," Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian leader added that every enhancement of air defense brings Ukraine closer to the end of the war. He highlighted that "the fewer successes the aggressor country has, the greater its motivation will be to end the war."

"Together with our partners, we continue to work on building a reliable air defense system. Our capabilities will be able to guarantee not only Ukraine's safety but also that of our partners when needed," declared the Ukrainian president.

Zelensky mentioned that negotiations for further air defense enhancements are ongoing, taking place both at the government level and directly with the manufacturers of the systems.

Germany announced plans to transfer Patriot systems to Ukraine from the Bundeswehr's reserves by early August 2025, specifically referring to two systems. The supply has been made possible with financial support from Denmark, Lithuania, and Norway.

During a meeting of the "Coalition of the Decisive", Zelensky urged EU countries to provide Ukraine with Patriot air defense systems. According to him, Kyiv will return them as soon as it receives assistance from the United States.
