Putin Calls Water Resource Issues a Serious Challenge

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his special representative for climate issues, Ruslan Edelgeriev, on November 1. During the meeting, Edelgeriev presented a report focusing on the interconnection between water resource management and climate-related challenges.

Edelgeriev noted that water issues have become an integral part of climate negotiations today. He emphasized that this topic is closely linked to efforts against climate change, which sometimes limits national sovereignty, particularly in developing countries with significant water or fish resources.

During the meeting, Putin underscored the need to protect Russia's interests in international negotiations while considering the demands of the global environmental agenda. He also highlighted the importance of efficient use of the country's water resources.

“The issue of water resources is becoming increasingly acute, especially for our neighboring countries. The situation in Russia is manageable; however, this issue remains a serious challenge in many CIS countries,” the president stated.
