Pakistan Partially Reopens Border Crossing with Afghanistan
Edita
Pakistan has partially reopened the Torkham border crossing with Afghanistan on Saturday, allowing thousands of Afghan refugees the opportunity to return home, according to a report by the Associated Press.
Restrictions remain in place for all other types of cross-border movement, including trade. Pakistan closed all border crossings with Afghanistan following violent clashes on October 12, during which both sides claimed that dozens of servicemen were killed.
The resumption of operations comes after Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to maintain a ceasefire following nearly a week of talks mediated by Turkey and Qatar, aimed at preventing a broader conflict in the region.
